IEC 60601-1, MOPP & Patient Protection

Selecting the right medical power supply involves much more than simply matching voltage and wattage. Electrical safety, isolation, leakage current, insulation, creepage and clearance can all be critical considerations when designing power systems for medical electrical equipment.

IEC/EN 60601-1 sets the fundamental safety and essential performance requirements for medical electrical equipment. Within the standard, MOPP (Means of Patient Protection) defines measures intended to protect patients from electrical hazards.
