Introduction and Selection: ICL-16 Series and Circuit Breakers
Source: https://www.meanwell.com/newsInfo.aspx?c=5&i=765&utm_source=e-news_Tech In switching power supply (SPS) design, it is common that bulk capacitors are used to reduce ripple voltage twice the supply frequency at the output and to improve output voltage stability against power sag. However, bulk capacitors typically require a large amount of current to charge up upon initial start-up, resulting in a large inrush current. To minimize...

  5. Switched-mode power supply

    Switched-mode power supply
A switched-mode power supply (switching power supply, SMPS, or switcher) is an electronic power supply that incorporates a switching regulator to convert electrical power efficiently. Like other power supplies, an SMPS transfers power from a source, like mains power, to a load, such as a personal computer, while converting voltage and current characteristics. Unlike a linear power supply, the pass transistor of a switching-mode supply continually switches between low-dissipation, full-on and full-off states, and spends very little time in the high dissipation transitions, which minimizes wasted energy. Ideally, a switched-mode power supply dissipates no power. Voltage regulation is achieved by varying the ratio of on-to-off time. In contrast, a linear power supply regulates the output voltage by continually dissipating power in the pass transistor. This higher power conversion efficiency is an important advantage of a switched-mode power supply. Switched-mode power supplies may also be substantially smaller and lighter than a linear supply due to the smaller transformer size and weight. Continue reading →

  7. LED Drivers – Constant Current (CC) or Constant Voltage (CV)?

An important thing to consider when purchasing a LED driver is whether the application requires a constant current (CC) or constant voltage (CV) driver. If you were planning on using the driver to power an individual LED bulb, or to run numerous bulbs in series, you would need to ensure that you get a constant current driver. If however...
  8. IP Rated Power Supplies and LED Drivers

Ingress Protection (IP) is the rating that is used to specify the levels of sealing effectiveness of enclosures against intrusion from external substances and moisture. The IP rating consists of two numbers, the first refers to the protection it has against solid objects and the second refers to the protection it has against fluids. The table below explains what each...
  9. Christmas closing and New Year Opening Times

  10. What is a LED Driver?

A LED driver is an electrical device that regulates the power to an LED or string(s) of LEDs. What makes a driver different from conventional power supplies is that an LED driver responds to the ever-changing needs of the LED, or circuit of LEDs, by supplying a constant amount of power to the LED as its electrical properties change with...
